Finding your frequency
Figuring out how often to post based on what you can do, when you can do it
Gary Bloomer | SHAKING THE TREE # 233
Up until a few years ago, I bought into the notion that it was necessary to post some sort of ground breaking content every day.
Looking back, this probably explains why I burned out and quit trying to make any headway ... well, that and not having a content creation plan, but that's a different story.
Which brings me to the idea of finding your own frequency (that's posting frequency), even if that means you only post once a month.
I get that this flies in the face of established guru advice.
But here's the thing: much of the guru advice we come across is pretty shallow stuff. So, it's important to blaze whatever trail feels best for you.
Personally, my frequency is twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
When I started doing this I knew it was going to be a bit of a stretch, and yes, there have been a few times over the last two years when the odd post or two has been late. But generally, I've managed to set a schedule and stick to it.
Knowing I have two posts to write and edit each week keeps me on track and forces me to keep showing up, no matter what.
These days, I keep a running list of article titles and subjects, which helps ensure I don't run out of things to write about.
Right now I'm looking at a list of articles to take me through October, November, and December.
Even jotting down a vague title and subject is enough to keep me on track, and knowing my frequency, well, let's just say it's made me a more consistent contributor.
So, by figuring out your frequency—how often it’s possible for you to post and being realistic about what you can produce, when you can produce it—you’re more likely to set yourself up for success.
As always, thanks for reading.
